B- is for banana

Today we worked on the letter B. Again we started by having Mew locate the B magnet on the fridge and again he did the quickly. He really impressed me with how well he made his B in his wipe-off book after we worked on it for a little while. The lowercase b was a bit harder for him but he did OK. Jocie found her pictures that started with B on her page quickly and they were both ready to jump right into the FOOD PLAY!

We started off checking out bananas and touching them both in and out of the peel and talking about not only how it felt but also the smell etc. Then I cut them up and encouraged them to smash and roll it around on their plates. They didn't quite like the feel of it so I decided it was time to try some other foods. I raided the pantry and fridge. First thing i found was butter, so I tossed a slab of it on each of their plates. Jocie loved that touching it made her fingers shiny. Mew did NOT like touching it one bit. Next, I gave them each a few slices of canned beets and cut a few slices into cubes for them. I also added some blueberries to their 'collection'. Mew and Jocie both took right to licking and touching the beets and blueberries. Jocie liked the blueberries but NOT the beets. Mew said they were both funny. Jocie then informed me that bread also started with a B, and asked if she could have some of that too. Yes, you may dear! so, I got out the bread. We made tore of the crusts and she began to eat her piece. Mew and I used to the crust to make 'bread balls'. Looking down at the blueberries and beets making colorful prints on their plates, I asked if he wanted to 'color' his bread. He did not hesitate! Within in minutes he had wet, purple bread, and Jocie thought it might be a good idea to try this as well. She had more trouble squeezing the juice onto the bread and spreading it, but she was NOT giving up. She wanted so badly to take a taste, but could not bring herself to do it, so off for another fresh piece of bread I went. She gobbled that down and our fun came to an end.

By the time we finished, Mew had purple fingers and purple all over his legs and feet. Yes, he likes to wipe his hands all over himself!  He was a little upset it would not wash totally off the first time, but he got over eventually. Jocie had tried a taste(lick) of both the beets and blueberries! Things went well again and everyone had fun. Cannot wait until our next activity!
