I is for Ice

We couldn't have had a better day to prepare us for the letter I. SO hot outside, Ice sounded Great! But, what fun is regular old ice? Not much! so the first thing we did today was color some water with food coloring. Jocie and Mew each chose a color they wanted to make by blending other colors together(nice add in for color mixing!). Jocie wanted purple and Mew chose green. We poured the colored water into ice cube trays to freeze for later. Then we got busy on our letter work. Mew found the letter magnets- not too hard, they are sideways Hs! Both did well with their paper/wipe off book work.

We also decided to make Ice cube pops using different juices we had in the refrigerator. we made them out of Fruit punch, berry juicy juice, flavored water pouches, apple juice and for fun, code red(jocie's idea, not mine I promise!) We covered the tray with foil and inserted toothpicks(I used the flat ones so they were not a 'Mew hazard'). These made nice sweet treats to try. Both kiddos loved them and both thought that the fruit punch ones were the best.

Once the colored ice cubes were frozen, we used those to play. Jocie touched them and moved them around her tray a little bit, but she really preferred to just wait for some to melt so that she could 'finger paint' with her colored water. This was a great time to talk about water freezing and melting and how it changes etc. Mew thought his ice cubes made great cars and rocket ships and he launched them across his tray over and over. He had a blast with them.

We also added Ice Cream to our food activities. Jocie and Mew had their first Ice Cream bars!(nope, they never had them before, at least not their own. They did try some of Daddy's once I think) Jocie preferred to just eat the chocolate off of hers but did lick a little bit of the ice cream. she is not fond of COLD foods. Mew, on the other hand, loved the whole bar. He gobbled it up quickly! I am sure he will want more soon.

We did not even make it through the activities before they were  asking what letter we would do tomorrow! J of course!
