Welcome

Welcome to the Nut-Hut!

I am Brat, Aka: Leader of the Nuts! I am a stay-at-home of 2 girls: Pebbles(18) and Jocie- aka:Pea-nut(6) and 1 boy: Mew- aka:Budder-nut(4). (I will introduce the kiddos more in-depth in a later posting) The last 4+ years we have spent a lot of our time just exploring and learning about sensory processing(sensory integration) disorder and trying to help navigate our way through this 'new world'. I have found that there is so much fun to be had in sensory exploration for ALL children and wanted to take some time and share some of our daily adventures.

One of our newest activities is foods of the alphabet. The idea; to help Jocie and Mew with areas they struggle with at the same time, with one set of fun activities they can both enjoy together.

For Jocie, the focus is introducing her to a variety of healthy foods in a less threatening way and also continued exposure to a variety of textures for touching. The goal is to try to get her tasting and exploring more foods and hopefully eventually adding more to her diet as she finds things she likes. Also, we are trying to help ease her anxieties about touching different textures, especially wet and gooey things.  Of course, we also like to continue to review letter sounds and early reading skills as we go.

For Mew, the focus is helping him learn letter recognition and introducing him to letter sounds in a way that will interest him and also, like Jocie, continued exposure to hands on tactile experiences. The goal  is to try to get him more engaged in learning concepts as well as helping him strengthen his fine motor skills. Also, we are trying to help him explore textures more often and with less apprehension. If he tries a new food in the process that is great, but overall he is pretty good about trying things, and this helps Jocie out to see him not afraid to do so- WIN WIN!
